How I Prep My Business for Sick Season

The Most Underrated Business System? The One That Keeps Your Household Running

When we talk about business systems, most people think of CRMs, automations, or sales funnels.

But sometimes? The most impactful system in your business… is elderberry syrup.

Let me explain.

Sick Days Are a Backend Bottleneck No One Talks About

As a mompreneur running a business and a household, I’ve learned that germs don’t care about your calendar.

Every time my kid starts a new class, goes to summer camp, or returns to school after a break, the same cycle starts:

  • One kid brings home a cold
  • The other follows
  • Then I get hit
  • And of course, my husband somehow has it the worst 🙃

And when the whole house is sick?

  • Sales calls get moved
  • Projects get delayed
  • Routines go out the window
  • My brain goes into survival mode

And if you’re parenting through sniffles, tantrums, and back-to-back reschedules… you know exactly what I mean.

Why Household Systems Are Business Systems

Here’s the kicker:
My kids don’t rest when they’re sick.
They get more energy.
They’re home. And I still can’t send them to school.

That’s when I realized: I needed a household system to protect my business system.

So 6 months ago, I added elderberry syrup to our daily routine.
And anytime I know we’re heading into a “germy” environment (new school year, travel, holidays), I double up for a few days in advance.

It’s been a quiet game-changer.

My youngest just started a new daycare class—and yep, he’s on elderberry like it’s a prescribed med every 12 hours.

The Business Strategy Behind Immunity Routines

This isn’t just about herbs.
It’s about buffering your backend for real life.

Just like I build in fallback automations for launches or prep onboarding workflows that run without me, I treat cold season the same way:

  • I pad my calendar during seasonal transitions
  • I shift my expectations on output
  • I prep the elderberry
  • And I give myself grace if things slow down

Because sometimes, the most strategic thing you can do for your business… is keep your household functional.

Want to Try It? Here’s How I Make My Elderberry Syrup

Yep—I started making my own.

It’s super simple. No fancy tools required.

Because systems aren’t always software.
Sometimes, they’re the difference between pushing through burnout vs. being able to rest while your systems quietly do their job.

Final Thought: What’s Your Underrated Household System?

Whether it’s elderberry, a shared calendar, or a stack of frozen meals ready for launch week, your household systems matter.
