The Time I Invited 20 First-Grade Parents to My Wax Appointment
(And What It Taught Me About Systems)
Yep. This is a true story. 😅
Last year, my son was in first grade, and I was not prepared for how much I needed to keep track of as a parent.
Dress-up days.
Field trips.
School lunches.
Project deadlines.
It felt like there was a new thing every week—and every week, I was scrambling.
I was tired of the last-minute Target runs.
Tired of being the mom who forgot it was Pajama Day.
Tired of holding everything in my head and still dropping the ball.
When You’re Managing Life, Business, and ADHD—Systems Matter
After one too many mental meltdowns over forgotten snacks and misplaced permission slips, I finally created a dedicated Google Calendar just for my son’s school events.
Every email the teacher sent?
Every flyer stuffed into his binder?
Straight into the calendar.
Then—because I was feeling very proud of my organized new system—I sent the calendar to the teacher and said:
“Feel free to share this with the other parents.”
And she did.
And Then… the Wax Appointment Happened
A few weeks later, I scheduled a wax appointment and—without realizing it—added it to the shared calendar.
Yep. That meant 20 first-grade parents (and the teacher!) could now see:
🗓 “Angela: Bikini Wax, 11:15am”
Oh, and because I have ADHD, I set up three appointment reminders.
So yeah… they got multiple pings leading up to the big moment too.
Cue the full-body cringe.
But Here’s What I Really Want to Tell You
Even with that very awkward mistake… I was still proud of the calendar.
Because for the first time in months, I wasn’t drowning.
My brain finally felt calm.
There was space.
That system—imperfect as it was—was doing its job.
And that’s the truth about building systems that support your life or your business:
You don’t need them to be perfect.
You just need them to catch the things your brain can’t always hold.
What Systems Are Actually For
I work with a lot of online business owners who are neurodivergent, overwhelmed, or just straight-up exhausted from trying to “keep up.”
They’re juggling launches, client onboarding, emails, and family life—often without any backend support.
And they think the solution is to “try harder” or “be more consistent.”
But here’s the thing:
Your consistency isn’t the problem.
Your system is.
The goal isn’t perfection.
It’s peace.
It’s space.
It’s relief.
How to Build ADHD-Friendly Systems That Work (Even on Messy Weeks)
Inside my membership, The Systems Pharmacy, we build systems that are:
- Simple and sustainable (no 50-tab setups or overcomplicated funnels)
- Built for real energy levels (especially on foggy-brain, no-focus days)
- Customizable to how your brain works (visual, flexible, and low-maintenance)
- And most importantly? Gentle. No shame. No pressure. Just steady progress.
Here’s what you’ll be able to do inside the membership:
✅ Know what to focus on each week—without second-guessing
✅ Build one system at a time (and actually finish it)
✅ Make progress—even on the messy, low-energy weeks
✅ Finally feel like your business supports you (not the other way around)
Final Thoughts: You Don’t Need to Be More Disciplined—You Need Better Support
Whether you’re managing a family, a business, or a brain that forgets things no matter how hard you try—your systems should have your back.
Not shame you when you slip.
So yes, I triple-check my calendar settings now.
But I’ll never regret building that calendar.
Because it gave me the kind of mental space no planner or productivity hack ever could.
